About Christine's Swedish Weaving
Christine Allan's passion has always evolved around textiles. Christine graduated from LaSalle College in Montreal with a degree in Fashion Design. One of her professors asked her to apply for the Fibers & Textiles teaching position in the Design department and subsequently Christine taught there for several years.
For over 10 years now she has owned and operated her own dressmaking business but has now changed her direction to Swedish Weaving. She is an importer of the Monk's Cloth fabric as well as a pattern designer of Fun and Fast Patterns and teacher/demonstrator of this wonderful art form. Swedish Weaving was once called Huck Embroidery. This lost art was taught in the schools up to the 1960's. She's bringing this lost art form back to life with a modern twist. Monk’s Cloth is wonderful to work with since its 100% cotton.
Christine has taught 2 one day Swedish Weaving workshops in the area. She has also taught Swedish Weaving at the Quilter's Pleasure Weekend in Cornwall, Ontario for 2 years using her Fun and Fast Patterns and volunteered her time to the local Glengarry Encore Education Centre with several Swedish Weaving classes, always using her Fun and Fast Patterns. Christine was featured in the Canadian magazine called 'A Needle Pulling Thread' in the Festive Issue 2008 and 2010 with her unique designs and in 4 consecutive issues in 2011 featuring Decorating with Swedish Weaving. The first in this series is Spring 2011. Christine has also taught at the Creativ Festival in Toronto for 2 years and plans to continue teaching her Swedish Weaving. She is always looking for new ways to expand her Swedish Weaving business by teaching in and around the area.
Should you wish to have her teach in your area please contact her and she will be glad to discuss things with you. All class kits come with natural Monk’s Cloth that is prepared for the class. She's always loved working with her hands and Swedish Weaving is another art form that brings her great pleasure. With her demonstrational skills as a teacher, she is able to successfully share her passion with many others.
Thank you,
The Christine Swedish Weaving Team!
